The Travel Agency “MARANGOLO VIAGGI” is excited to announce to organize the “Deaf Tour of Sicily” in collaboration with a Deaf Organizer – Courier Mr. Vito de Marco who is keen on discovering Deaf Culture, making friendship with the Deaf Planet around the world and welcoming the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Tourists in his native land.
SICILY
Beautiful, mysterious Sicily inhabits a world all its own, with its own hybrid language, a unique cuisine tangy with the spices of Africa, and a rich culture derived from the parade of Mediterranean powers that have ruled its shores.
Our fascinating hikes bring us to the vineyard-covered slopes of mighty Mt. Etna, into the Pantalica Gorge, where 5,000 Neolithic tombs are hewn into canyon walls, and out to the charming Aeolian Islands jutting out of pure aquamarine seas.
As we explore this land, we also relish the glorious monuments of many epochs, from a staggering wealth of Greek and Roman temples to majestic cathedrals with Arab-Norman facades, a testament to the multicultural heritage of one of the most gorgeous islands in the world.
1st DAY – MONDAY, MAY 14, 2007: ARRIVAL TO CATANIA
Arrival in Catania and meeting with the courier and transfer to the hotel located in zone of Catania – Acireale.
Little briefing about general information on the itinerary. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
In the order of arrival hour, possibility to visit Acicastello, known for the Norman Castel and Acitrezza for the stacks. In the late evening free dinner in the restaurant located in Acitrezza.
2nd DAY – TURSDAY, MAY 15, 2007, : SYRACUSE – CATANIA
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning excursion to Siracusa, the most beautiful Greek colony of Sicily. We will visit the famous “Fontana Aretusa”, and the archaeological area with its marvellous theatre and “Orecchio di Dionisio”. After lunch in Ortigia in a typical restaurant, the small baroque island, old city centre of Siracusa, the tour will go on with the visit of Catania, the town known for its original baroque style and for its streets built with black lava stone from mount Etna. Walking tour through Via Etnea, the Baroque street “Via Crociferi”, the Piazza Duomo with the Cathedral and the “Liotru” statue, symbol of the city, the roman Amphitheatre, the Opera House, the University, and the noble Palace of Biscari. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight in the hotel.
3rd DAY – WEDNSDAY, MAY 16, 2007: ETNA – TAORMINA – CASTELMOLA
Breakfast at the hotel; morning dedicated to a fantastic excursion to Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. Across fascinating landscape, we will reach a height of 2000 metres, where we will enjoy a fantastic panorama of the Ionic Sea. In the afternoon free time in Taormina, the small medieval village called “the pearl of the Ionic Sea”, famous for its typical small streets and his fascinating Greek theatre. We’ll continue to Castelmola and visit the typical Bar Turrisi. In the late evening free dinner in the typical restaurant located in Taormina. In the night return to the hotel overnight.
4TH DAY – THURSDAY, MAY 17, 2007: PIAZZA ARMERINA – AGRIGENTO
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Piazza Armerina, in the heart of Sicily, where we will visit “Villa Romana del Casale”, famous for its fantastic mosaics. Lunch in a typical restaurant “Antica Roma”. We will continue our tour to Agrigento and visit the wonderful “Valle dei Templi”. Concordia Temple, Ercules Temple, Giunone Temple and Castore and Polluce Temples represent the most beautiful example of the Greek Civilization in Sicily. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
5TH DAY – FRIDAY, MAY 18, 2007: AGRIGENTO – SELINUNTE – ERICE
SEGESTA – MONDELLO
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Selinunte and visit the archaeological park, the largest in the Mediterranean area. Lunch in a typical restaurant. We’ll continue our tour to Erice and visit the beautiful area of Trapani, with its vineyards famous all around the world; we will visit the fascinating Erice, a small medieval village with ancient Greek origin, situated on a little hill, where it will be possible to enjoy a fantastic view on the Egadi Islands and have a nice taste of its typical almonds biscuits.
We’ll continue also to Segesta and visit the temple. At the end of the Day. Arrival to Mondello, cute small town known for its beach. Dinner and overnight at the hotel
6TH DAY – SATURDAY, MAY 19, 2007: PALERMO – MONREALE
Breakfast at the hotel; morning visit of the Capital of Sicily, one of the richest town in Sicily for history and art. We will visit the Cathedral, “Palazzo dei Normanni” with its “Palatina” Chapel, the “Quattro Canti”, the Opera House, the Pretoria Square. We will continue to Monreale to admire the Cathedral with its splendid 12th century mosaics, and the cloister of the Benedectine monastery with Moorish architecture.
In the afternoon optional excursion to: “Santuario di Santa Rosalia” on Monte Pellegrino and Mondello, the favourite beach of Mondello people for a walk or a nice swim. Dinner in hotel or Free Dinner in old town and overnight in hotel.
In the case the Palermo Provincial Association of the Deaf and its President Armando Giuranna accept to satisfy Mr. organizer Vito de Marco’s proposal to welcome foreign deaf tourists, they will be available to organize the deaf theatre show at night.
7TH DAY – SUNDAY, MAY 20, 2007: PALERMO – CEFALU’ – ACIREALE
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Cefalù and visit of the Norman Dome, rich of Byzantine mosaics. Lunch in typical restaurant. Possibility to visit the Bagheria Villas of the 700s or Archeologically Site of Soluto. We will continue our tour to Acireale and visit the lovely churches in old town. Dinner in the hotel or Free Dinner outside and overnight at the hotel.
In the case the Giarre Association of the Deaf agrees with Vito de Marco, its ex well-known Vice-President about welcoming foreign deaf tourists, they will be available to organize the dinner or party.
8TH DAY – MONDAY, MAY 21, 2007: CATANIA
Breakfast at the hotel. Participant’s departure. In order of departure hour, long journey for the airport, possible visit of Catania. End of tour of Sicily.
C o n d i t i o n s
The fee includes:
– Accommodation in hotel 3*/4* stars;
– Coach o minibus for the progress of the tour in Sicily as per program;
– Deaf Courier for the whole length of the tour;
– Seven Half Boards of which two meals included in typical restaurant as per program;
– Local Guides where necessary – Agrigento/Selinunte/Taormina;
– Tolls and parking;
– Europe Medical Assistance and no stop luggage;
– Iva – Tax.
The fee doesn’t include:
– The flight from and for the origin destinations;
– The transfers from Airport to Hotel and Vice versa;
– Drink and Meals, tips and extra;
– All as not recommended to the voice “The fee includes”
– Ingressi a Musei e Siti Archeologici.
Supplements and reductions:
– Single room supplement: € 160 per tour;
– Transfer APT/Hotel/APT by stage:
about Palermo 80,00 Euros / about Catania 60,00 Euros by car from 1 to 3 participants;
– Excursion to St. Rosalie Shrine / 6th day: € 15 per person;
– Reduction third and fourth bed for adult, children: € 35 per tour;
– Dinner in Hotel, not expected by program: 20 Euros per person;
– Drink to meals as per program: 1/2 of water and 1/2 of wine – 28 Euros per person.

The fees in full will have to arrive successfully by bank transfer at leat one month before the date of beginning of the Tour, which will be informed to the single addresses by the coming of the minimum of 15 participants
After the post of fee deposit, in case of renunciation or cancellation of the tour, at least one month before the departure date and anyway previously the definitive mutual confirmation, the deposits would be returned in full.
After the post of the fee in full, in case of cancellation of the tour, the participants would pay the penalty according to contract of trip, percentage proportioned by the departure date of the Tour, with a maximum of 100% en case of NO SHOW.
